Winners Announced for 2019 Economic Impact Awards
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Sept. 27, 2019) — The Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Business Record honored Greater Des Moines (DSM) companies with Economic Impact Awards last night. The Economic Impact Awards recognize companies that have had a significant influence on the local economy in terms of job creation, capital investment and facility expansion.
The 2019 Economic Impact Award winners are:
Casey’s General Stores, Inc.
Casey’s, because of its expanding business operations, is completing a 74,000-square-foot office addition and remodel of its existing store support center and distribution center in Ankeny.
Dwolla
Dwolla opened a new 22,000-square-foot-space in Downtown DSM in 2019. The new office project has supported the hiring of 35 new employees since the space opened in January with 15 or 20 more expected in 2019
ESO
ESO’s Fire Division is located in the Des Moines Register’s old press room on Locust Street. The company employees 40 people in its completely renovated, 15,000-square-foot space — including the working front end of a fire truck — with room to double the workforce in the coming years.
Incotec
Incotec opened a state-of- the-art Innovation Center in Urbandale, housing both R&D and commercial functions. The Innovation Center allows Incotec to provide unique and sustainable solutions to the North American market and globally.
John Deere
John Deere recently constructed a brand-new, 134,000-square-foot facility in Urbandale. This facility is home to more than 800 full-time and contract employees and is its premier development organization applying technologies like robotics, computer vision, AI and IoT to agricultural equipment that will help farmers continue to farm year after year. The $32.6 million investment took 11 months from groundbreaking to ribbon cutting.
Meredith Corporation
As a result of Meredith’s acquisition of Time Inc. in January 2018, it relocated approximately 200 high-paying positions with full benefits from New York City to Des Moines, and hired new staff to fill these positions. The project included remodeling the current headquarters facility to accommodate this growth, resulting in an investment of nearly $21 million.
Michael Foods
Michael Foods’ newest facility in Norwalk will serve as its 15th egg processing plant, primarily supporting the growth of precooked egg applications such as egg patties, omelets, frittatas and more. The initial footprint of the facility is 143,000 square feet and is expected to create 130 – 170 new jobs in DSM.
Microsoft
Microsoft calls DSM home for its state-of-the-art data centers, which provide Microsoft Cloud services to billions around the world, and is proud to have the highly skilled residents of DSM as a part of its team.
Pella Corporation
This year, Pella Corporation expanded its local footprint opening a 12,000-square-foot satellite office in DSM. The new office has allowed Pella to bolster recruitment and retention of team members while contributing to the DSM community.
The Printer Inc. (TPI)
TPI recently finished and opened new headquarters in Des Moines. Its new facility is 80,000 square feet of space dedicated to the data programming and production of high-quality direct mail pieces for the casino industry.
