Convention Hotel Project Moves Forward

February 26, 2015

The Des Moines City Council and Polk County Supervisors this week approved a financial-assistance package for the proposed $101 million convention hotel project. This was a big step in the right direction toward making the project a reality.

Moving forward with this project is one of the Partnership’s five major priorities in 2015. The convention hotel will help the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau to attract larger events to the region. The hotel would generate an economic impact of $1.2 billion during its first 20 years of operation. Furthermore, it will help raise the profile of Greater Des Moines (DSM) on a national scale.

The ability to move this project forward is a big win for the region, and a great example of cooperation between the city, county, and state governments and the business community.
