World Batman Day Takes Shape with Special Appearances + Events
The countdown is on to World Batman Day on Saturday, Sept. 17. This global celebration is locally hosted by the Iowa League of Heroes and will include special events and guests across Greater Des Moines (DSM) to mark the occasion. Here’s how you can participate:
Downtown Farmers’ Market
Batgirl and The Dark Knight will make an appearance at the Downtown Farmers’ Market in Historic Court District. The Market takes place from 7 a.m. until Noon so watch for them as you stop by booths and support local vendors. To help plan your visit, see which vendors will be at The Market on Saturday morning and find parking information, too.
Blood Drives
LifeServe will hold a Super Blood Drive to celebrate World Batman Day through saving lives starting at 7 a.m. Donate at LifeServe Blood Center at 431 E. Locust St. in Downtown DSM until 1 p.m.
A blood drive will also be held in the Eldridge, Iowa area. Hudson’s Heroes Blood Drive, Toy Drive & Lemonade Stand begins at 9 a.m. Donations and proceeds from the drive will benefit Hudson Strong Foundation to help childhood cancer families in the state.
Amore Pets
Amore Pets will donate the proceeds from pet nail trims to help the Iowa League of Heroes and their mission. Bring your pet into the Norwalk shop anywhere between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
132nd Wing Family Day
The 132nd Wing Family Day is a military personnel and family members exclusive event. The caped crusader and his super friends will attend Family Day from 2 – 3 p.m.
Batman Movie Showings
Cinemark Century Theaters will have exclusive showings of three classic Batman movies throughout the day. Watch Batman as he fights his enemies on the big screen. Head to the theater for a full day of Batman superhero cinema, popcorn and fun among other Batman fans. Check your local theater for showtimes.
Batman Mural
Don’t forget to check out the giant 50-foot mural painted on the north wall of the American Outlaws building at 214 3rd St. in Downtown DSM.
Other Batgirl + The Dark Knight Events
At 8 p.m., see the Bat signal shine on the side of the Des Moines Marriott Downtown building, 700 Grand Ave. Batgirl and TDK will be onsite nearby, enter location, so fans there to see the light can also get photographed with the caped crusaders.
