United Way of Central Iowa Launches New Online Resource Powered by Purpose

For most of us, finding our “why” is an important part of creating motivation in our personal lives and in the workplace. Powered by Purpose, a new online resource created by United Way of Central Iowa and community partners is an initiative that will help those living and working in the Greater Des Moines (DSM) community, to take the right steps to explore their purpose.

As we go through life, our purpose can shift and evolve as we grow in our careers and expand our networks. Because of this, defining your purpose is an ongoing task that we must constantly adapt to understand. Considering your own purpose journey is a vital step in finding meaning and encouraging growth, no matter what phase of life you’re in. As we continue on through 2020 — and continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic — it is important that we make time to define our own purpose and seek to create a positive impact within our own communities.

Powered by Purpose strives to help you set achievable goals and energize you as you tackle them. We explore five steps that help people do this as they learn through Powered by Purpose in a recent blog post on “Five Steps for Setting Big Dreams and Bold Goals,” including:

• Prepare your mindset.
• Dream big.
• Choose your influence.
• Practice courage.
• Start where you are.

Powered by Purpose will connect you with the right tools to make a positive impact in DSM. Through the Powered by Purpose Journey Portal, you can take the Powered by Purpose Pledge and receive advice, resources and discovery activities to complete over the course of the free eight-week program starting Monday, October 19 until Friday, December 11.

The Powered by Purpose website offers resources, such a blog, event links and books that support the initiative. Blog posts are contributed by United Way of Central Iowa and its partners and purpose-focused community members, providing varying perspectives and insightful information. Powered by Purpose is part of United Way of Central Iowa’s Thriving Workforce initiative, which seeks to hire and retain talent through successful hiring and retention practices.
