Talent + Students Connect Thanks to Tallo
In February 2020, the Greater Des Moines Partnership announced its licensure of Tallo, a unique recruitment platform utilizing predictive analytics. The Partnership and Tallo will connect talent — students 13+ through adult learners and professionals — to higher education institutions and regional businesses. Prior to the announcement by The Partnership, Tallo had been virtually unknown by our regional business community. Students, however, had already discovered the platform and begun building profiles to leverage Tallo’s many tools.
One of those students is Henry Shires. Henry is a high school junior in Greater Des Moines (DSM) who won a $1,000 Tallo scholarship, specifically for Iowa students. The scholarship for students in Iowa was launched in conjunction with The Partnership’s announcement of its collaboration with Tallo.
How Tallo Works
With more than 780,000 users across the US, it’s not difficult to believe some Iowa students had been introduced to the platform prior to the Partnership’s formal announcement. Tallo offers students the opportunity to build profiles built entirely by the user. Some options of information to add are extracurricular activities or club memberships, standardized test scores and AP coursework, virtual portfolio pieces and volunteer hours. Profiles are as individualized as the students themselves, reflecting the user’s interests and future aspirations.
Student users can build individual profiles on Tallo to be used as connectors with higher educational institutions and businesses, as well as to match with available scholarship dollars through Red Kite. Tallo has partnered with Red Kite, a scholarship matching engine, to allow Tallo users to match with over $20 billion in scholarships — all through their profiles. Additionally, Tallo hosts its own scholarships for student users to apply for such as the $1,000 won by Henry Shires.
For students currently at home, now is the perfect time to begin building a Tallo profile. Take some time each day to begin adding and uploading information that reflects achievements and goals. As profiles become more complete and robust Tallo can better match any available scholarship dollars, including this scholarship currently open exclusively for Tallo users in Iowa.
Now is the perfect time for students to begin or continue enhancing Tallo profiles. A lot is changing right now but taking some time to look ahead and begin intentionally thinking about the future will be beneficial down the road. We at The Partnership are excited about the opportunities Tallo offers to students and can’t wait for students to discover those opportunities for themselves.
Job opportunities and career resources are abundant in Greater Des Moines (DSM). Whether you're looking to find an internship, a job, develop professionally or grow as a student, we have the resources to help you thrive.
