Partnership Investors Recognized as LGBTQ+ Friendly in 2021
In 2021, the Greater Des Moines Partnership will continue to work to implement Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into its programs and services, including through training and development opportunities. When LGBTQ individuals are able to bring their true authentic selves to the workplace, they are more productive, have greater job satisfaction and commitment and stay in those jobs longer helping to save the company money. It is important for organizations to be well versed in language surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, in order to create an inclusive environment. The Partnership’s own commitment to inclusion is apparent in its hosting of the annual Inclusion Summit and other various opportunities, as well as through the dedication to DEI policies and practices of its many Investors, Members and Affiliate Chambers.
According to UCLA school of law, 4.5% of U.S. population and 3.6% of Iowa population identify as LGBTQ+. In an era when many cities are seeing a decline in population and workforce, we cannot afford to exclude any members of our communities from the workforce with unwelcoming, unfriendly and discriminatory policies. How do LGBTQ+ individuals impact business?
- LGBTQ+-inclusive cities are more globally competitive as evidence shows they have stronger “innovation ecosystems,” greater concentrations of skills and talent and better quality of life.
- LGBTQ+-inclusive workplaces are more likely to attract and retain top talent, retain a loyal consumer base and drive innovation.
