Meals from the Heartland Announces Another Successful Hunger Fight
Meals from the Heartland had 3,200 volunteers, who packaged nearly 3.4 million meals for the 15th Annual Hunger Fight held August 31 – September 3. Since 2008, this event has taken place at the Hy-Vee Hall located in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. According to Greg DeHaai, Executive Director of Meals from the Heartland, the team was able to package 85% of the meals with fewer volunteers compared to the 2019 annual event."
Packaged Meals Across the Globe
The nearly 3.4 million packaged meals will be sent by ship or plane to the following countries: Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Philippines and Togo. Meals from the Heartland helps feed more than 465,000 children every school day around the world.
