2023 Economic Impact Award Winners Contribute to DSM Economic Vitality
Each year, the Greater Des Moines Partnership awards regional companies for their roles in influencing the local economy in terms of job creation, facility expansion and capital investment. Through their work in the region, these award winners have made a significant contribution to Greater Des Moines (DSM) and are recognized for their efforts in continuing to create a place to live, work and play that increases the economic vitality here.
Award Winners – Part One
Clow Valve Co.
Clow Valve recently broke ground on a $75 million expansion project at its existing foundry in Oskaloosa. The project, which involves a 36,000-square-foot addition to the southwest side of the company’s existing iron foundry, is part of the Iowa High Quality Jobs Program, which works to provide businesses with assistance to offset the costs associated with building, relocating or expanding premises.
The expansion, which is being built to accommodate new manufacturing equipment to replace outdated models, is being built alongside the existing foundry so that the company can continue to operate while construction and installation takes place. The new equipment will enable Clow to produce twice as many products as its existing workforce and is critical to the long-term success of the operation and the retention of more than 400 local jobs.
Collins Aerospace
Collins Aerospace is a business of RTX, the largest aerospace and defense company in the world, with a team of 80,000 employees. Collins Aerospace West Des Moines facility is a world leader in the design and production of engine components for commercial and military aircraft. In July 2023, the Collins opened a $14 million expansion of its additive manufacturing center. The 9,000-square-foot addition provides space for the site to house several new state-of-the-art 3D metal printers. The new printers will allow the site to explore additive production of these components, building on the multiple land-based turbine components it already has in production. Additionally, the facility is one of only eight in the U.S. to receive the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) certification for Additive Manufacturing.
