Whitfield & Eddy Law Welcomes Three New Associate Attorneys.
Whitfield & Eddy Law, a full service firm in downtown Des Moines, welcomed three new associate attorneys.
Jennifer B. Chavez-Rivera joined as an associate attorney in the firm's Business and Banking practice group. Ms. Chavez-Rivera will work with financial institutions and lenders on commercial lending transactions and matters. She will also be involved with real estate and wills, trusts, and estates matters.
Ms. Chavez-Rivera is a high honors, class of 2020 graduate of the Drake University Law School. She served as Vice President of Drake Law’s Student Bar Association and Articles Editor for the Drake Law Review. Ms. Chavez-Rivera received a B.A. in both Political Science and Ethics and Public Policy from the University of Iowa in 2017, where she was a member of the University’s Honors Program and a Research Fellow at the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates.
Prior to receiving her J.D., Ms. Chavez-Rivera was a law clerk at Whitfield & Eddy. She also worked as a Judicial Intern for Chief Judge Anita Shodeen at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Iowa and interned at the Wells Fargo Legal Department in Des Moines as a Cady Law Opportunity Fellow at Drake University Law School.
Ms. Chavez-Rivera is fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish and assists Whitfield & Eddy clients with interpretation and translation services.
Joshua D. Feil joined as an associate attorney in the firm’s Business and Banking practice group.
Mr. Feil has a background in loan workouts, loan documentation, loan enforcement and foreclosures. He has also assisted clients with promissory notes, security agreements, construction liens, and litigation matters.
He previously practiced law as an Associate Attorney in the Creditors’ Rights practice area and Financial Services Industry team at Saalfeld Griggs PC in Salem, Oregon.
Mr. Feil received his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2016 and was a Managing Editor of the Iowa Law Review. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University cum laude in 2013.
Joshua D. Feil is licensed only in the state of Oregon.
James Andersen joined as an associate attorney in the firm’s litigation practice group.
He represents clients in civil matters including labor and employment, business and commerce, municipal, real estate, construction, administration, energy and environmental law.
Prior to joining the firm, James was an Appellate Law Clerk for Justice Jeffrey J. Funke of the Nebraska Supreme Court from 2018 to 2020. He served as an Appellate Law Clerk at the Nebraska Court of Appeals in the 2017 to 2018 term. He also was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Iowa District Court in the Third Judicial District from 2015 to 2016 and the First Judicial District in 2017.
James received his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2015.
