New Work-based Learning Tool Helps Employers Identify Talent Engagement Opportunities
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Oct. 9, 2023) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership has unveiled a new Work-Based Learning Company Self-Assessment Tool that will assist companies in identifying how to improve talent career pathways and fill their workforce needs with home-grown talent.
Work-based learning opportunities create awareness among students about what type of work is available within the Greater Des Moines (DSM) community and help them gain professional and technical skills for a potential career path. In return, employers can build a strong talent pipeline and create a more connected workforce through work-based learning programs like registered apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing and more.
In Iowa, more than 310 districts have at least one work-based learning program across various industries, including agriculture, automotive, business and marketing, health care, IT, public services, according to Iowa Student Outcomes.
To maximize the benefits of work-based learning, The Partnership created the Work-Based Learning Company Self-Assessment Tool to help organizations assess their work-based learning efforts and needs in three key areas, including:
- Work-based learning continuum diversification
- Education partnerships and support staff
- High-quality and accessible work-based learning experience for all students
“The entire community benefits when local students are prepared and supported as they gain the skillsets and confidence needed to work in our region,” said Lexi Shafer, Director of Workforce at The Partnership. “This work-based learning tool will help close gaps and fulfill talent needs for DSM employers by identifying actionable steps for success.”
Businesses and organizations interested in utilizing The Partnership’s Work-Based Learning Company Self-Assessment Tool can learn more and download the Self-Assessment here.
