City of Bondurant Wins Prestigious Iowa League of Cities' All-Star Community Award for Innovative Rec-N-Roll Trailer

August 29, 2024

Bondurant, Iowa — Aug. 29, 2024 — The City of Bondurant is excited to announce that it has been awarded the Iowa League of Cities' All-Star Community Award for 2024. The city was honored for its innovative Rec-N-Roll Trailer, a program designed to connect the community one neighborhood at a time and enhance the quality of life in Bondurant.

The All-Star Community Award, presented annually by the Iowa League of Cities, celebrates innovation and excellence in local government. It allows member cities to showcase their pioneering initiatives, share best practices, and highlight their efforts to enhance community life. This year, Bondurant's Rec-N-Roll trailer stood out as a model of creativity and community engagement.

The Rec-N-Roll Trailer serves as a mobile, one-stop shop for organizing block parties and community gatherings. Equipped with everything needed to throw a great party, the trailer has quickly become a vital tool for fostering community spirit and inclusivity throughout Bondurant. The program encourages neighbors to interact, welcome new residents, and create lasting connections—truly embodying the city’s mission of "connecting our community one neighborhood at a time!"

Launched in late fall 2022, the Rec-N-Roll Trailer program was made possible through a collaborative effort involving multiple key community partners. The Bondurant Chamber of Commerce secured essential funding through a Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows Casino and Racetrack, Polk County, and Amazon's DSM5 Facility. Together, these organizations helped bring the vision of the Rec-N-Roll Trailer to life, offering a new way for Bondurant residents to engage with each other and build stronger, more connected neighborhoods.

Bondurant's vibrant and connected neighborhoods are one of the reasons it is such an attractive place to live. Over the years, the number of block parties in the community has grown significantly, providing more opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate their shared commitment to making Bondurant a welcoming and inclusive city.

"We are honored to receive the Iowa League of Cities' All-Star Community Award for our Rec-N-Roll trailer," said Doug Elrod, Mayor of Bondurant. "This project represents the heart of our city's values—community, innovation, and inclusivity. The award honors our community organizations’ work in creating the Rec-N-Roll Trailer program and this program exemplifies the power of collaboration and the importance of community building. We look forward to continuing to connect and strengthen our neighborhoods, businesses, and community events, and promote our hometown values.”
