What’s a day in your job like? I work at a public relations agency, so a day in my job will look different from day-to- day and week-to- week depending on what the client work is at the moment. One day I might be doing research or writing a report, and another day I might be helping to plan events or pitching to the media! I love the variety.
What are your passions outside of work? When you’re not at work, what will we find you doing? When I’m not at work, you can perhaps find me running (On a treadmill. I’m a treadmill junkie. I can be on one for hours). Watching Netflix or Hulu (often on a treadmill), reading or perhaps hanging out with my two cats (not on a treadmill).
Where’s your favorite night out in Greater Des Moines (DSM)? Currently, my favorite night out in Des Moines is a stop at The Continental for one of their signature cocktails and maybe some live music, tacos at Tacopocalypse, and then I like to finish out the night at Up—Down, probably playing Jenga or Battle Toads.
What role has mentorship played in your career? I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever had a mentor (officially), but I have had some valuable relationships with experienced professionals who have taught me how to navigate the politics of an organization and helped give me the confidence to make my voice heard.
What’s a piece of career advice that has served you well? I think some career advice that has really helped me is to not be afraid to speak my mind. I think it is really easy to undervalue your experience when you are a young professional, but YPs have valuable experience and contributions to make, so don’t forget that!
What projects have you been involved with in YPC? This is my first year being really involved with YPC. I’m so excited to see what amazing things we can accomplish in 2016!

The Young Professionals Connection (YPC) promotes an environment that attracts and retains young professionals in Greater Des Moines (DSM). YPC connects young professionals to each other and to the community through social, civic, charitable and professional development endeavors. YPC members have unique opportunities to grow personally and professionally and forge lasting relationships. They engage, connect and form a foundation for their future in DSM. YPC is an initiative of the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
