Chuck Grassley serves in the United States Senate, representing Iowa in his seventh term in office. Senator Grassley was first elected in 1980 and holds the record for the longest voting streak in Senate history. Prior to that, he served in the Iowa Legislature from 1958 to 1974 and then the U.S. House from 1974 to 1980.
Chuck Grassley Leadership Tips
Senator Grassley discusses the importance of being candid with your constituents, as well as how understanding agriculture and the role of the family farm has assisted him in his decision-making. He says that each of his staff members should see themselves as a senator and consider what they would do in a given situation. It’s essential that members of his staff are able to think like him and for him in order for him to spend time on positive issues rather than putting out fires.
When it comes to mental health, Senator Grassley keeps his mind in shape for leadership by focusing on faith, family, community and enjoyable work. He says he is fortunate in that he can stay optimistic by strengthening each of those areas.
Senator Grassley suggests listening to the grassroots of America and remaining calm in leadership during crisis. He says that it’s up to leadership to help create a more cohesive society. Be honest with people and be ready to go above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done.
