Five Iowa Seniors Receive Greater Des Moines Career Launch Scholarships
Through a new initiative, the Greater Des Moines Career Launch Scholarship, five high school seniors will receive $1,000 scholarships. The seniors, who have participated in Tallo’s online platform, must plan to attend a college in Iowa and be from one of the following 11 counties in and around Greater Des Moines (DSM): Adair, Dallas, Guthrie, Jasper, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek and Warren.
2022 Scholarship Recipients
The following seniors were selected, and responded to questions about where they’re from and their plans for the future:
Bailey Baccam – East High School (Polk County)
Dream Job: Pharmacist
Bailey was selected as a recipient of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Career Launch Scholarship due to her response about loving DSM’s acceptance of diversity and opportunities for growth in the region and aspirations to be a pharmacist and sit on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
Hannah Evans – Valley High School (Polk County)
Dream Job: Computer Programmer
Hannah was selected as a recipient of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Career Launch Scholarship due to her response about loving the opportunities provided in West Des Moines, including shopping, restaurants and parks and aspirations to work with Principal as a computer programmer in the future.
Joel Hueso – Marshalltown High School (Marshall County)
Dream Job: Software Engineer
Joel was selected as a recipient of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Career Launch Scholarship due to his impactful response about the murals around his hometown and aspirations to be a software engineer with Microsoft.
Lizzy Orey – Indianola High School (Warren County)
Dream Job: Neuropsychiatry
Lizzy was selected as a recipient of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Career Launch Scholarship due to her response about loving the close-knit community of Indianola and aspirations to work in neuropsychiatry for a DSM organization that ensures quality healthcare to all.
Leslie Rangel – Marshalltown High School (Marshall County)
Dream Job: Nursing – to become a registered nurse and to work at the University of Iowa Hospital
Leslie was selected as a recipient of the Greater Des Moines Partnership Career Launch Scholarship due to her response about the diversity and strength of her community and aspirations to work in healthcare, specifically at the U of I.
