5 Fun Ways to Prepare for the Golden Circle Games
You just signed up for your first ever Golden Circle Games, and I’m sure you’re super excited for the event. And what’s not to be excited about – a fun Friday afternoon off work, yes please! For those of you with some competitive spirit, though, there’s probably something a little bit different going through your mind. Something like, “How the heck do I prepare myself and my team for this thing so we can take home the gold?”
Well, if you’re reading this post, you’re in luck.
Limber Up – Don’t Be a Couch Potato!
What are you waiting for? Now’s the time to practice your hula hooping, bocce balling, egg tossing and, well … ball swinging. These events are going to test your patience, timing, flexibility and team spirit. So get some friends together and practice, practice, practice.
Tap Into Your Creative Problem Solving Skills
One of the main themes of the Golden Circle Games is teambuilding. That means it’s pretty likely you’ll find yourself in a situation where your entire time has to – oh, I don’t know – run an obstacle course connected by interlinking arms or flip a tarp without touching the ground. Either way, you need to be prepared to think on your feet and work as a team.
Raid Your Closet to Find the Best Costume
Can you say fabulous? Each year the Games have a themed costume contest, and this year it’s Hunger Games. Find your inner Cinna and create your own Capitol Couture for you and your team. You’ll probably want to leave the fire effects at home, but other than that … go crazy! Who knows? That’ crazy idea might just win you and your team a prize! And, of course, you’ll look AMAZING no matter what!
Keep an Open Mind
Each team member is coming to the table with a different perspective. To kick butt at these team-building games, you must remember to listen to your team before jumping in and trying something. Ring a bell? This probably sounds a bit like something you might hear at the office. And, hey, maybe you’re a pro at it. But we could all use a little practice, so take a few minutes and try to look at things around you in a different perspective. It’ll probably come in handy at the Golden Circle Games.
Brush Up on Your Networking Skills
Like any event, you’re probably going to run into a few people you’ve never met. Instead of just awkwardly looking at your phone and walking past, be prepared to dazzle them with and introduction and strike up a conversation. Maybe take a few minutes between now and then to practice your elevator pitch and making conversation. A mirror can help with this. Or better yet, find some friends and practice with them. After all, you never know who you might meet.
To end with a wonderful saying from childhood, “It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, as long as you have fun.” So practice up on your skills, give it your all and remember that you’re supporting a great cause!
