We’re talking about the Lauridsen Skatepark that will soon take shape along the Principal Riverwalk. It’s named after Nix and Virginia Lauridsen who gifted $1 million to the project and added their name to the 4,700-long list of community supporters who are backing the project.

Featuring 65,000 square feet of skateable terrain, it will be the third largest skatepark in the nation. The world-class facility will attract regional and national tournaments to Greater Des Moines (DSM) boosting the local economy. It will also provide new outdoor recreation opportunities especially for youth and young adults entering the workforce.
