The DSM Book Festival took place annually and brings together book enthusiasts from writers to readers to book bloggers to bookstore employees. Since the inaugural event in 2019, the DSM Book Festival has welcomed nationally-known authors Susan Orlean (2019), Taylor Jenkins Reed (2021), Stephanie Land, Imbolo Mbue and Dawnie Walton (2022) as event headliners. The event has also been a way for local authors and would-be writers to share their experiences and learn more about their craft. Along with author events, the DSM Book Festival hosts workshops, children’s storytimes and kid-friendly activities.
The DSM Book Festival had VIP passes available for attendees who want perks such as a signed book from a headlining author, reserved seating, access to a VIP Suite, complimentary beverages and more.
In 2022, the DSM Book Festival welcomed 30 local authors, 10 nonprofits, five merchants and three food vendors. With so many readers flocking to Downtown Des Moines (DSM) to enjoy the diverse lineup of authors and activities, it’s no wonder the DSM Book Festival is known as the “Best Book Festival in the Midwest.”
