Yankee Doodle Pops

Wednesday, July 3 | Iowa State Capitol
The Des Moines Symphony will welcome more than 100,000 to the West Terrace of the Iowa State Capitol for the largest single-day concert event in the entire state. This year’s patriotic favorites will include 1812 Overture and Stars & Stripes Forever. Legendary vocalist Hugh Panaro will join the Symphony. The singer has played the Phantom in 2,000+ performances of “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway.

Iowa Cubs vs. Omaha Storm Chasers

Thursday, July 4 – Saturday, July 6 | Principal Park
On the 4th, see the Iowa Cubs take on the Omaha Storm Chasers at Principal Park. The game will include holiday fireworks. Friday’s game will end in fireworks as well, and Saturday’s game offers catch on the field after the gates open.

First Fridays in the East Village

Friday, July 5 | Historic East Village
Head to the Historic East Village to shop local retail spaces, dine at Downtown Des Moines restaurants and hear live music in the streets. The New Northwestern Cocktail and Wine Bar will offer Happy Hour Specials until 8 p.m. and live music from 5 – 7 p.m., Peace Tree Brewing Co. will host Rok The Wok Food Truck and Velvet Coat’s Perfumarie Popup welcomes handmade fragrances from Jodilyn Stuart (Denver, Colo.).
