Fall for Autumn Brews with Peace Tree
Fall is here, and it’s the perfect season to enjoy a local craft beer in Downtown Des Moines (DSM). When the leaves start changing, my palate naturally starts to gravitate towards maltier and darker brews, like Märzen/Oktoberfest and stouts. There’s something about a full-bodied brew that just tastes better this time of year.
While Peace Tree is best known for beers like our award-winning Blonde Fatale and Get a Little Hazy IPA, we brew a wide array of styles throughout the year, and regularly rotate new and limited offerings through the 24 draft lines at our Des Moines Taproom.
Here are a few new brews you can find now at our taproom, and in retailers and fine establishments throughout the region.
Peace Tree Des Moines Taproom Brews
Legend red corn ale has already been one of my favorites this season. This collaboration with 1st Down Brewing Co. in Winterset was brewed and canned to benefit the Trice Legacy Foundation. It has a smooth caramel sweetness and a lower 5% ABV that makes for an easy sipper while tailgating or grilling and pairs wonderfully with a crisp autumn day.
And while the refreshing tartness of sour beers are always a big hit during the summer months, it doesn’t need to be a hot day to enjoy a cold one. That’s why we just released our brand-new Crushin’ Cranberry Sour Ale, a tart and juicy kettle sour with a velvety, fruit-forward flavor that’s perfect this time of year. Plus, it’s sure to pair well with your Thanksgiving feast!
Runaway Bay, our tropical stout, also just returned in time for the cooler months. This Caribbean-inspired beer bears a smoothness reminiscent of dark chocolate. It's a perfect storm of robust, dark grains and sweet, fruity aromas. Brewed with lager yeast, its faint bitterness emerges from late hops, making it a runaway favorite!
But it’s not all about dark beers this time of year. We’ve also been busy rolling out kegs of some fresh new Hazy IPAs to our taproom. Saving 2nd Base is a hazy IPA brewed with pink guava in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and with a portion of all sales this year benefiting the Knoxville Cancer Relay.
M.C. Hazy, our new mango-chili IPA, is a small batch that’s been a BIG hit in our taproom recently! With a healthy splash of mango and just a hint of fresh habanero to round it out — try a glass of this one with a rim of Tajín to spice things up!
And delicious beer isn’t the only reason to come visit us this fall … we have more taproom events planned than you can shake a stick at! From comedy nights to board game pop-ups and tournaments, and live music to Halloween parties, we try to have a little something for everyone!
Plus, every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 – 6 p.m. is Happy Hour, with rotating BOGO draft brews and more!
Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest happenings — there’s always something going on around here!
Have a flavorful fall, everyone — cheers!
