In less than two weeks, the 2023 Global Insurance Symposium (GIS) will welcome keynote speakers, panelists and attendees for three days of learning and networking April 18 – 20 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Downtown Des Moines (DSM). The event — a presentation from the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the Iowa Insurance Division and Iowa Economic Development Authority — will highlight best practices, the latest technologies in the insurance industry and more. Since its inauguration in 2014, the Symposium has hosted attendees from 13 countries and nearly every state, with last year’s event bringing over 500 attendees from three countries and 37 states. Client Networking (and CLE!)
The GIS is a great opportunity for attorneys to connect with current (and potentially new) insurance clients, industry experts, and state regulators. (In fact, regulators made up 12% of the attendees at last year’s event!) It’s also an easy way for attorneys to earn most of their required annual continuing legal education (CLE) credit hours. Iowa attorneys can complete up to 10 of their required 15 hours of CLE by attending both days of the GIS event. In short, the GIS is the perfect way for attorneys to learn more about the industry, network with insurance leaders, and earn their required CLE – all while celebrating the second-largest contributor to Iowa’s GDP.

Aaron Pearce is General Counsel for Berkley Agribusiness and Continental Western Group providing provide admitted and non-admitted commercial property and casualty insurance products throughout the United States. Those companies include Continental Western Group, Berkley Agribusiness, Berkley North Pacific, Berkley Southeast Insurance Group, Berkley Financial Specialists, and Berkley Crime and Intrepid Direct Insurance. His work and legal practice with these organizations is primarily focused on insurance regulation, employment law, business planning and general corporate practice. Mr. Pearce has been practicing law in the insurance industry for 14 years.

Christian Walk is a Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Global Atlantic Financial Company. Before joining Global Atlantic in 2018, Christian practiced law for 10 years at Nyemaster Goode, P.C. in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was a shareholder in the firm’s litigation department. Christian is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (B.A., Electronic Media) and Drake University Law School; he is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary. Christian also holds a Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College of Financial Services. Prior to pursuing a career in law, Christian spent several years as a television news anchor and reporter for the NBC-affiliate in Sioux City, Iowa.
