Downtown Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday, May – October | Historic Court District
Get your fill of fresh-from-the-farm fruit and veggies, meat and cheese, eggs, baked goods, flowers and plants, jewelry, art, décor and tons more! We think you might also be interested in the Global Greens Farmers’ Market, a service provided by immigrant and refugee farmers, which takes place just outside of Downtown Des Moines every Saturday, now through October, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pro Tip: They accept cash, credit cards, WIC, Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program checks and SNAP/EBT including Double-Up Food Bucks.

Marvel Superhero Night

Saturday, May 25 | Principal Park
As the Iowa Cubs match up against the Indianapolis Indians, bring your kiddos in their favorite Marvel and other superhero costumes for a night of fun! Look for Marvel character appearances, special Marvel-themed uniforms, custom Minor League Baseball-themed comic books and entertaining Marvel-themed activities and promotions throughout the game.
There’s even Iowa Cubs Marvel swag for sale, including a special “Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond” logo. Pro Tip: Come early to every Saturday home game and play catch in the outfield right after the gates open.

Wednesday, May 29 – Sunday, June 2 | Wakonda Club
Get your golf clap ready: This PGA TOUR Champions event brings together world-class golf along with Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses to support Iowa’s children's charities. Since 2007, the golf tournament has raised more than $53.7 million for local charities benefiting children around the state. Tickets start at just $25; kids 15 and under and all military/veterans receive free admission. (Bonus: Here’s your chance to check out the newly restored Wakonda Club course!)

The next edition of AVid features Joyce Carol Oates, author of nearly 60 novels, along with dozens of plays, short stories and other works. Her career has been highly decorated by awards such as the National Humanities Medal, National Book Award, five-time Pulitzer finalist and many, many others. Some of her national bestsellers include “We Were the Mulvaneys,” “Blonde” and “The Falls” with a new novel, “Butcher” releasing this month. The program will include an author talk, Q&A, book signing and book sale provided by Beaverdale Books. Admission is free.
