Wells Fargo Implements DEI Hiring + Retention Efforts to Advance Opportunities

Wells Fargo Inclusion Award

Wells Fargo has been recognized as a 2021 Inclusion Award winner by the Greater Des Moines Partnership for championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout their business. Inclusion Award winners were selected by a committee of Inclusion Council members and Partnership team members.

Wells Fargo won in the Large Organization category (more than 500 employees) at the 9th Annual Inclusion Summit, held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny Campus. The Summit’s theme — Equity in Action — gave attendees the opportunity to learn more about what equity means, discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices and honor the four Inclusion Award winners of 2021.

Diverse Hiring + Retention Efforts

Wells Fargo has spent time crafting intentional efforts to add to their hiring and retention process and create a diverse workforce at all levels. These efforts include advancement opportunities into leadership positions, growth opportunities and making a difference in the community.

For over 20 years, Marta Codina, region bank president, Midwest central region, has seen DEI come to the forefront. Wells Fargo currently offers Employee Resource Networks. These groups are connected by a shared background or experience and include the following:

  • Asian Connection
  • Black & African American Connection
  • Disability Connection
  • Generation Connection
  • Hispanic & Latino Connection
  • Middle East Connection
  • Native Peoples Connection
  • Pride Connection
  • Veterans’ Connection
  • Women’s Connection

Through the networks, team members can become more engaged, and this helps to serve Wells Fargo’s customers. Codina said they are not just focused on internal DEI, but also what that looks like for the customers as well.

To qualify for the Inclusion Award, businesses must be a Partnership Member or Investor.
