Veridian Credit Union Extends an invitation for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday at Veridian

November 1, 2024

Across our communities and the world, Giving Tuesday has become a tradition of generosity. It’s an annual opportunity to thank and support the countless nonprofit organizations that help our communities thrive, including many that serve our neighbors who have few other places to turn. GivingTuesday.org defines it as “a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.” It’s always the Tuesday immediately following Thanksgiving, this year coming up on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.

There are a lot of ways you can get involved, and I’d like to invite you to one collaborative effort I’m fortunate to help represent.

Each year, Veridian Credit Union asks our communities to help us select local recipients of our Giving Tuesday donations. This year, to commemorate Veridian’s 90th anniversary, we’ll more than double our Giving Tuesday donations from $35,000 to $90,000.

Nominate a Greater Des Moines Nonprofit

Please take a minute to nominate your favorite nonprofit organization now through Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at veridiancu.org/GivingTuesday for their chance to be one of our 16 recipients. We’ll draw at random from those nominated to award $5,000 each to three eligible nonprofit organizations in each of our five market areas, including Greater Des Moines (DSM). An additional organization from any of our areas will also be drawn to receive $15,000. Recipients will be announced on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry

The Urban Bicycle Food Ministry, a 2023 recipient of “Veridian Give Back for Giving Tuesday” donations, meets weekly to serve those in need in DSM and takes to the streets to hand out food, personal care items, etc.

To be eligible, nonprofit organizations must work to address one of Veridian’s five funding priorities, including (1) affordable housing, (2) basic human needs, (3) diversity, equity and inclusion, (4) employment readiness and (5) financial literacy. To help ensure equal opportunity between large and small nonprofit organizations, each nominated organization will receive one entry for the drawing regardless of the number of times it was nominated. Details are available at veridiancu.org/GivingTuesday.

As our President and CEO Renee Christoffer said, “Veridian was founded 90 years ago on the need to support our communities and the people in them. It’s appropriate for our anniversary celebrations to reflect those values that still guide us today.”

Iowa Giving Crew

Iowa Giving Crew was a recipient of a “Veridian Gives Back for Giving Tuesday” donation in 2023. Its mission is raising funds and marshaling resources within our collective networks to serve those in need throughout our community.

Whether or not you nominate a nonprofit in our Veridian Gives Back for Giving Tuesday campaign, I hope you’ll join me in planning now and finding a way to give on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. The communities we share are certain to benefit from your generosity.
