On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, Sweet Swirls is giving you permission to be a little kid again and eat your dessert first (thing in the morning!).

Mark your calendars, ice cream lovers and early birds — Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 is National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day and Sweet Swirls is celebrating alongside thousands of ice cream shops across the United States. Featuring special breakfast themed flavors, giveaways and collaborations with local businesses it is sure to be a morning you won’t want to miss! Join in on the celebration of creativity, indulgence and community — all rolled into one delicious morning!

National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day at Sweet Swirls

National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day was started in Rochester, N.Y. by Florence Rappaport, a mother of six, who was looking for something to entertain her children one snowy morning. The tradition dates back to the mid-1960s and quickly spread as all her children grew and shared it on their travels. Ice Cream for Breakfast Day is now officially celebrated on the first Saturday in February each year. The celebrations spread across multiple countries worldwide, including New Zealand, China, South Africa and Germany!

It’s not surprising that the holiday has grown into a day of indulgence celebrated around the world. What could be more fun than bringing the whole family together and eating ice cream for breakfast? Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, this is your chance to break the rules (in the sweetest way possible).

Since breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, we have spent weeks preparing the perfect breakfast inspired offerings for the early bird and ice cream enthusiast alike. In addition to our usual flavors and mixins we have crafted three special rolled ice cream creations only available for Ice Cream for Breakfast Day:

• PB&B: Peanut Butter ice cream with bacon pieces and maple syrup drizzled in!
• Banana Pancakes: Vanilla ice cream with fresh bananas and fluffy pancake pieces mixed in and drizzled with maple syrup. Top it off with a spoonful of chopped pecans for a little crunch!
• Cops & Donuts: Coffee ice cream with sprinkle donut pieces mixed in topped with a drizzle of chocolate sauce!

We also planned a few other menu offerings exclusive to this delicious holiday, including ice cream sandwiches — made with donuts! We are working with Linda Donuts to offer this variation on a classic treat. You’ll get your choice of one scoop (any available flavor), sandwiched between two glazed donuts. If your eyes are bigger than your stomach, maybe opt for a donut à la mode instead.

 

We know that two is almost always better than one so this year we are partnering with two local businesses to bring you the best breakfast experience Ankeny has to offer! Along with Linda Donuts, we are excited to be working with Porch Light Coffeehouse for the second year in a row. Enjoy a complimentary cup of Joe, freshly brewed from our friends up the road, while you wait for your breakfast creation to come to life by one of our exceptional swirlers. If you find yourself needing an extra dose of caffeine from all the early morning excitement, be sure to head up the road to visit Porch Light and peruse their wide range of handcrafted espresso beverages!

Our team has spent weeks experimenting with recipes, perfecting the balance of flavors and dreaming up creative mixins. From sourcing the freshest ingredients to designing the perfect rolled ice cream combinations, we’ve poured our hearts into making this event unforgettable.

We’ve also worked closely with our local partners to ensure that every element of the morning — from the coffee to the donuts — complements our ice cream creations. It’s all about crafting an experience that’s as memorable as it is delicious.

We couldn’t ask you to set your alarms early without really sweetening the deal so we will have special prizes and a giveaway throughout the morning! Braving the cold will be worth it for the first person in line, who will get their choice of prizes. A few of the prizes include a custom ice cream cake, a chance to create a flavor of the month, gift certificates and more! If you’d prefer to hit snooze a couple more times before enjoying your morning ice cream, we’ll have opportunities to enter a giveaway for additional sweet treats all morning long.
