Paint the Town Green at This Year’s Johnston Green Days Festival

Looking for a free summer festival in a Greater Des Moines (DSM) community that celebrates Johnston, Iowa businesses, alumni and residents? Johnston Green Days takes place annually in Terra Park, where 200+ acres of public space are plenty of room for the Johnston Green Days carnival, live entertainment, fireworks and more. This year, attend the event from Thursday, June 13 through Saturday, June 15 to be part of the festivities. This year’s theme is Paint the Town Green so don’t miss out on your chance to do just that!
Johnston Green Days Events
Each day of Johnston Green Days, you’ll find local food vendors, carnival, the John Deere Equipment Display, the Johnston Arts Council terra Park Art Walk and live musical acts, including Mike Aceto on Thursday, Dick Danger Band and Gimmikk on Friday and Motley Scrue Iowa and Sons of Gladys Kravitz on Saturday. Thursday events also include the Jammin' in Johnston Business Expo (featuring 40 local businesses!) Johnston Community School District art winners Presentation and the Light the Night for Sight Walk.
On Friday, special events include the crowning of the King and Queen of Green and the Tapping of the Green Keg, sponsored by Big Green Umbrella Media.
Finally, Saturday is the day to attend a pancake breakfast with Johnston Kiwanis and the parade, take part in a Craft and Vendor Fair, celebrate at Johnston Alumni Night and watch the fireworks display.
Note: The carnival remains open Sunday from 1 – 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Johnston Green Days organizers are still looking for volunteers for event shifts. Currently, available slots include:

Initial setup on Thursday from 9 – 11 a.m.

Entry monitoring on Thursday from 5 – 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 – 10 p.m.

Beer tent servers on Thursday from 7:30 – 10 p.m.

Reorganize chairs and tables on Friday from Noon – 2 p.m.

Entry monitoring on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m.

Wristband and ticket on Friday from 7 – 9 p.m. and 9 – 11 p.m.

Reorganize chairs and tables on Saturday from 10 – Noon, 4:15 – 5 p.m.

Beer tent servers on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 – 11 p.m.

Wristband and ticket on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. and 9:30 – 11 p.m.
