Outdoor Amphitheater Coming to the City of Grimes
It will be a place to fish, watch a concert or just relax. The City of Grimes has big plans for the soon-to-be-constructed outdoor amphitheater at its new library building. Both Grimes Public Library and Grimes Parks and Recreation will use this space for programming. The departments are in the process of determining what programs and activities will occur at the amphitheater, but possible options are youth science and STEM education, storytime, small live music events and fishing.
Where to Find the New Amphitheater
The amphitheater will be located on the east side of the building and will seat up to 100 people. It will feature a boardwalk that extends in a half circle across a detention pond. Additional handicap parking will be added and the boardwalk will be wheelchair accessible.
An Inclusive Space
The City of Grimes is ensuring that people of all abilities can enjoy their new spaces. The new library building and splash pad both feature adult-size changing tables in the family restrooms so people of all ages and abilities can use the spaces longer. Often, older children and adults wearing diapers must leave early if these accommodations aren’t available.
The new library building also features a calming room with special lights and sensory objects to give people a place to relax and take a break from the loud noise or stress of a public space. Construction on the amphitheater will start this summer and is expected to be completed by late fall or early winter. The Grimes Public Library is located at 200 NE Beaverbrooke Boulevard.
