How Iowa is Celebrating Women in Agriculture
Did you know that nearly 50,000 women serve in leadership, support and influence decision-making roles across Iowa’s 86,000 farms? In addition, women are making a difference in the state’s various commodity and industry fields.
This is why Iowa’s own Stine Seed Company, in collaboration with the Iowa FFA Foundation, the Iowa 4-H Program and FarmHer, has worked with Governor Kim Reynolds to secure a proclamation declaring March 25, 2021, as Women in Agriculture Day in Iowa for a second year.
The Role of Women in Ag
Women bring equivalent skills and knowledge to men to the agriculture industry. Across the United States, more than 1.2 million women work on the farm, a number that continues to grow as the roles for women in agriculture continue to expand. In fact, the amount of U.S. farms operated by women nearly tripled over the last three decades.
Today, women from all walks of agriculture, including research, seed sales, farming, trade, agribusiness, education and more, play a vital role in helping the industry prosper and advance for future generations. Stine’s partnership with FarmHer, the Iowa 4-H Program and Iowa FFA Foundation enables us to elevate, empower and educate women in agriculture throughout the industry.
Honoring Female Farmers
While Stine always seeks ways to honor its employees, partners and other ag industry professionals, the company is proud to recognize and pay homage to women agricultural workers everywhere at the crossroads of Women’s History Month and National Ag Week (March 21-27).
Through Women in Agriculture Day in Iowa and Stine’s ongoing Women in Ag campaign, our goal is to offer people both inside and outside the industry a first-hand look at the important roles women play in the ag industry across our state and beyond. Through videos and blog posts shared online and on social media, we’re sharing stories from the inspirational women we’ve had the privilege to meet and work with over the years. This is our way to say “thank you” for their contributions to the ag industry and the world, and to encourage more young women to pursue careers in the vibrant, growing agricultural sector.
Join the Celebration
We’re inviting all women in ag to join in the celebration. Share your stories on social media using the hashtag #TogetHER4Ag. You can also see other stories and how Stine is celebrating women in agriculture on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube pages.
