The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the 5th annual Athene Black & Brown Business Summit, presented by Wells Fargo, on April 16 – 17, 2025, at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel. This high-impact Greater Des Moines (DSM) event brings professionals and entrepreneurs together for two full days of learning, connection and growth.

Meet the 2025 Keynote Speakers

  • Christine Hà – The first blind contestant and winner of MasterChef Season 3, Christine is an acclaimed chef, restaurateur and author. She brings an incredible story of resilience, creativity and overcoming obstacles — one that will inspire audiences to break barriers and lead boldly.
  • Kely Nascimento – Activist and storyteller, Kely shares insights on sports, culture and social impact. Through her unique perspective, she explores the power of storytelling to drive change and empower communities.

Pitch Competition Presented by Bank of America

One of the most anticipated parts of the summit is the Pitch Competition, presented by Bank of America, where selected finalists present their business ideas to a panel of judges. With over $150,000 awarded since 2021, this is more than a competition — it’s a launchpad for big ideas and bold innovators.

In 2025, The Summit received over 400 pitch applications from around the world, making this year’s competition the most competitive yet. Finalists will take the stage to pitch their companies and compete for cash prizes, exposure and access to valuable business resources.

Entrepreneurial Excursion

New in 2025, kick off The Summit experience with the Entrepreneurial Excursion on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 where attendees will travel together to visit several local businesses making an impact in DSM. This unique behind-the-scenes opportunity offers a closer look at success stories, operational models and valuable insights from business leaders — all while building community and connections with fellow attendees.

Everett Mullican serves as the Marketing & Communications Coordinator for the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Drake University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Everett resides in his hometown of West Des Moines, Iowa.
