Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC’s) Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families is keeping busy creating opportunities through employment support programming and events. Here are the latest offerings to help connect and improve individuals’ employability and assist in connecting people with positions at Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses and organizations.

There are numerous openings with DSM organizations, as well as other opportunities to be aware of through the Evelyn K. Davis Center. Career coaches are also available at the following locations: Evelyn K. - Upcoming Hiring Events:
- DMACC is hosting a Health & Public Service Career Fair on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the DMACC Ankeny Campus, Building 5.
- Registration is now open for the April 2025 class of CDL Jumpstart, a program intended for English Language Learners interested in obtaining their Commercial Driver License (CDL). The April course will be held in the mornings at DMACC Urban, and an October 2025 course will be held in the evenings at Urban. CDL Jumpstart program prepares students by teaching industry-specific terminology while getting ready for the Commercial Learner’s Permit exam, improving soft skills and providing hands-on experience by visiting the Transportation Institute. This course is intended for individuals with high intermediate to advanced English language skills and is provided at NO COST to students who participate. Attend the Heart 2 Heart Speed Interview Clinic on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at IowaWorks, 200 Army Post Road in Des Moines. The maintenance craft jobs are laborer custodial, maintenance mechanics and electronic technicians. The starting salaries range from $44,756 for the labor custodial to $74,772 for the electronic technician. Additionally, the Des Moines Processing and Distribution Center on 2nd Avenue, also has automotive technician opportunities. The starting salary for the Automotive Technician is $66,681.

- United Way: United Way will offer free tax preparation for households earning less than $67,000.
- Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC): The DMACC Non-Credit English Language Learner Spring Session I ELL registration appointments in the immediate Des Moines area are full. They are no longer accepting new students at Ankeny, Urban, Southridge or West. The next registration day is Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
