Evelyn K. Davis Center Spring Offerings

Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC’s) Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families is keeping busy creating opportunities through employment support programming and events. Here are the latest offerings to help connect and improve individuals’ employability and assist in connecting people with positions at Greater Des Moines (DSM) businesses and organizations.

Appointments

Schedule a time to meet with an Evelyn K. Davis Center Career Coach at evelynkdaviscenter.org/appointments.

Employment Support

There are numerous job openings for DSM organizations, as well as other opportunities to be aware of through the Evelyn K. Davis Center. Career coaches are also available including at the following locations:

  • Evelyn K. Davis Center (1171 7th St., Des Moines) from 8 – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Northside Library (3516 5th Ave., Des Moines) from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesdays.

  • DMACC: New Nurse Aide Jumpstart - Registration is open and the event is free for qualifying students. DMACC offers many professional development courses. Find more info here.
  • Parenting classes for new parents, parents sharing custody, parents of all ages, formerly incarcerated parents and adults in parenting roles are being offered. See more information on the flyer.
  • An Evelyn K. Davis Center Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024. More info to come!

The Ankeny Klothing Exchange (TAKE) offers gently used clothing, shoes, linens and small household goods to people in need. They are located at 718 NE Grant St., Ste. 102 in Ankeny. Shopping hours are Monday through Friday and the second Saturday of the month from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Home Inc. is offering a free class for tenants to learn about their basic rights and responsibilities as a renter in Iowa on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Home, Inc. (1618 6th Ave. in Des Moines)

DART will make several changes on July 1, 2024. We apologize for any impact these changes have on your ability to use our service.

No Wi-Fi on Buses: Wi-Fi will no longer be available on any DART bus. You can still use free Wi-Fi at DART Central Station.

  • If you use the MyDART app or other tools to plan your trip, we encourage you to download that information before leaving DART Central Station or another starting location with Wi-Fi. Printed schedules are also available in the lobby at DART Central Station. 
  • Reduced Customer Service Hours: DART Customer Service will follow this new schedule beginning on Monday, July 1:
    • Monday – Saturday: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    • Sunday: Closed 
  • You can contact Customer Service during open hours by:
    • Visiting the window at DART Central Station, 620 Cherry St., Des Moines
    • Calling: (515) 283-8100 

Learn more about paying bus fare, buying passes and scheduling Paratransit trips when Customer Service is closed at ridedart.com/july. Both changes are needed to balance DART’s budget as costs for operating services continue to rise.
