Bondu Chowder Ride: A Winter Tradition on Two Wheels
As the depths of February hit, cycling enthusiasts and casual riders alike turn their attention to one of Bondurant’s most beloved traditions — the Bondu Chowder Ride. Organized by the Bondurant Parks and Recreation Department, this free, family-friendly event brings together the community for a scenic and invigorating winter bike ride along the Chichaqua Valley Trail.
This year’s ride is set for Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, offering participants a 10-mile journey from Bondurant to Berwick and back. Along the way, riders can enjoy a unique blend of camaraderie, scenic winter landscapes and, of course, a warm, hearty meal to top it all off. This ride is rain or shine or snow, so be ready to adapt to whatever Iowa weather throws at us!

Unlike high-intensity races or endurance cycling events, the Bondu Chowder Ride is designed for all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just looking for a fun way to stay active during the colder months, this event offers an easy, accessible ride with plenty of opportunities to rest, refuel and socialize.
Participants will meet at Reclaimed Rails Brewing Company at 10:30 a.m. for check-in before setting off at 11 a.m. The ride follows the well-maintained Chichaqua Valley Trail, a paved path that makes for a smooth and enjoyable experience, even in winter conditions.

After braving the elements and completing the 10-mile journey, riders will be welcomed back to Bondurant with warm, hearty food — Chowder at Founders Pub and Chili at Reclaimed Rails.
