The Creators Behind Iowa Cookie Co. Meet the Public at The Market
Iowa Cookie Co. was established in 2020 but up until the business decided to take part in the Downtown Farmers’ Market, its owners, Jordi and her husband Ryne, had kept their identities under wraps. The delivery-only business focuses on social media marketing, specifically through Instagram, to gain traction and make sales. Their earliest delivery customers, wondering who the faces behind the cookies were, would try to sneak peeks as the cookies were delivered to front door across Greater Des Moines (DSM).
Jordi’s high school culinary program, in a collaboration with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), gave her a year of culinary education. From there, she continued with pastry and baking culinary school before transitioning into a fitness focus, concentrating on personal fitness and fitness treats. Eventually, she began making larger cookies for neighbors which led to positive feedback and starting Iowa Cookie. Co. The business launched as the COVID-19 pandemic began, and at the time, their business model of only delivering was what customers wanted.
Cookies from Iowa Cookie Co. are each 6 ounces, about the size of three standard cookies. Each Friday, at 6 p.m., orders open online at iowacookieco.com — they sell out within hours! — and are delivered the following Friday around the metro.
At The Market
The romantic idea of The Market is what spoke to Jordi. She envisioned herself at The Market talking with shoppers each week. Every Saturday, she brings her oldest daughter with her to the Iowa Cookie Co. booth where she shows her the benefits of the business and being part of the DSM community, while also spending one-on-one time with her.
Each week, Iowa Cookie Co. rotates through seven different cookies. On Saturday mornings, they bring what’s left of those to The Market. Since adding The Market as a purchasing option, individual cookies can be bought, but otherwise cookies are sold by the dozen. Market cookies usually this includes Chocolate Chip, Monster, a fruit cookie and something that’s specifically for the kids, like a cookie rolled in sprinkles or topped with gummy worms.
"Getting to know your vendor neighbors and the other local business owners is just as rewarding as getting to know the customers you'll meet every week. Making connections and supportive, lasting impressions with everyone we come in contact with is one of the greatest gifts that we, as individuals, can offer to strengthen our community." - Jordi
