How to Navigate the Downtown Farmers' Market in 2022
Now that the Downtown Farmers’ Market is in full swing, vendors are prepared to welcome attendees to their booths and make sure you have the latest local ingredients in your shopping bag. If you’ve been to The Market already, you may know all the ways in which to navigate the Saturday morning event. But if you’re a Market newbie, you might be wondering if there are some tricks and tips to getting around the Historic Court District easily. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan your trip.
Riding the D-Line
When you’re getting around Downtown Des Moines (DSM), the D-Line might be one of the most convenient ways to save time. You don’t need to worry about finding a nearby parking space because the free shuttle stops near The Market and runs extended service every 15 minutes on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Download the MyDART app and get the real-time arrival of the buses on your iPhone or Android.
Utilizing the Fresh Pickings Wagon Valet
The Fresh Pickings Wagon Valet program allows shoppers to borrow a wagon at the Information Booth at 3rd Street and Court Avenue. The free lending program is sponsored by Iowa Food and Family Project to help with large purchases. It is available on a first come, first served basis. All you need to do to use a wagon is approach the Information Booth, provide your name, signature and ID and you are off to explore The Market with your wagon. Wagons can be checked out from 7 a.m. to Noon each Saturday.
Checking in with The Market Information Booth
While taking advantage of the Fresh Pickings Wagon program is one of the ways the Information Booth is helpful, Market staff at the Information Booth also provide assistance with maps, locating vendors that are at The Market on a weekly basis, shopping bags and any other Market questions. Market merchandise is also available to purchase at the booth each week. The Market map provides information on the location of ATMs, entertainers, bike valet, parking, restrooms and more. Look for Market staff at the Information Booth at 3rd Street and Court Avenue. They are ready to help you navigate The Market and find the products you need!
