The Final Des Moines' Downtown Farmers' Market of the Season is This Weekend
DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA (Oct. 22, 2018) – The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will wrap up the final outdoor market of the season this Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines (DSM).
Find plenty of treats at the final outdoor market of 2018 as patrons are invited to dress in costume to celebrate fall and Halloween. Participating vendors will be in costumes, decorate their space and hand out treats and candy to children in attendance. The UnityPoint Health – Des Moines booth will be a fun zone for the little trick-or-treaters with fall themed activities and fun prizes.
Farmers and producers from 50 counties will be offering a variety of fall produce for the final outdoor market of the season including sweet potatoes, butternut squash, beets, garlic, apples and fall-themed baked goods and treats such as caramel apples, apple cider, apple pie, pumpkins, fall mums, unique gourds, flowers and plants and more.
Winter Market
Fans of fresh seasonal produce and handmade products won’t have to wait too long for the next market though. The Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will take place on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 and again on Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. The Winter Market will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day indoors at Capital Square at 400 Locust St. in Downtown DSM.
“As we celebrate the final outdoor Farmers’ Market of the year, we’re looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with the Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market in November,” said Downtown Farmers’ Market Director Kelly Foss. “It’s a perfect opportunity to stock up for holiday meals, parties and gift giving with more than 130 Iowa vendors selling a variety of local products.”
Shoppers can expect to find eggs, beef, pork, duck, turkeys, holiday hams and a variety of late season and greenhouse produce. There will also be an abundance of fresh handmade products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, noodles, breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. In addition, poinsettias, fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths, handmade holiday ornaments and home decorations will be available.
