A Little Music, A Little Wine

On Thursday, The YPC Social committee hosted its monthly Social Happy Hour at Jasper Winery in Des Moines. The weather was great for the indoor/outdoor event, which featured Tony Bohenkamp and the Dueling Pianos. The jazzy, laid-back atmosphere made it easy for young professionals to relax and network without feeling self-conscious.  

Welcoming New Members

One of the biggest challenges to attending a networking events is that it’s typically awkward for many people to go out to an event alone, but the designated new members welcome table made it less intimidating to connect with people. Some attendees dressed up, some dressed down, but the YPC ambassadors made sure everyone felt welcome. The YPC ambassadors were very helpful in introducing new members to each other, and even the YPC President, Mike Banasiak was on site to greet new members. 

Nonprofit Sponsor

Volunteerism is a big part of the Iowa culture, and The Miracle League of Iowa was the sponsored charity. Having a booth for The Miracle League of Iowa made it easy for potential volunteers to learn more about the organization. The Miracle League of Iowa is an organization that allows children with disabilities to play baseball. The field is specially created to allow even children in wheelchairs to play. 

Professionals of all ages, including families took advantage of the opportunity to listen to great music while sipping great wines and beers from Jasper Winery.  Freshly grilled sandwiches were also available for purchase.  All in all, the sunny weather, cool music, and festive atmosphere made this an event worth attending.
