The Partnership and Clay & Milk Announce the Launch of the Iowa Innovation Dashboard

December 9, 2022

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Dec. 9, 2022) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership, along with local business news publication Clay & Milk, have announced the launch of the Iowa Innovation Dashboard. The dashboard is a comprehensive set of measurements of entrepreneurial activity in the state of Iowa, compiling several key metrics into one dashboard to capture the pulse of Iowa's climate for starting new businesses.

The dashboard shows measurements of business density, survival rate, research, investment capital and demographics regarding entrepreneurship in Iowa. The Partnership and Clay & Milk plan to update the dashboard twice a year, with plans to add new metrics in future iterations. Learn more about the dashboard here

“We strongly believe that Iowa’s entrepreneurial community is better when we have data and transparency around key business indicators,” said Diana Wright, Startup Community Builder for The Partnership. “Prior to the Iowa Innovation Dashboard, the data wasn’t easily accessible and where does one start? This project is the starting point. We know entrepreneurs create value in many ways. Data storytelling can be a powerful tool to better understand entrepreneurship in Iowa.”

“The Iowa Innovation Dashboard is a fantastic resource for our community that will continue to improve with time,” said Geoff Wood, Publisher at Clay & Milk. “Measuring an entrepreneurial ecosystem is not simple — future entrepreneurs, legislators and public officials, and anyone else working on economic development now have a single place to go to guide their decision making.”

The dashboard is available to view here. The dashboard provides an overview of several data sources pertaining to businesses that have been started in the state of Iowa.

Additionally, the 2022 DSM Small Business Jobs Report is now available to download. The report includes data points such as industry growth, job creation and more. This data report shows how small business leaders and entrepreneurs are being empowered throughout the region.
