Greater Des Moines Partnership Announces 2023 Strategic Priorities At Annual Dinner

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Jan. 26, 2023) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership unveiled its 2023 Strategic Priorities and shared its 2022 accomplishments at its Annual Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center at the Iowa Events Center.  

The Partnership’s 2022 results demonstrated growth and increased momentum in Greater Des Moines (DSM). The Partnership announced its economic development work with state and local partners resulted in 32 existing company expansions and new company locations, $989.6 million in capital investment in DSM and more than 700 new or retained jobs.

“2022 was a momentous year for the Greater Des Moines region, including economic development success, talent attraction initiatives and support for small businesses,” said Rowena Crosbie, President of Tero International and 2022 Board Chair of The Partnership. “Led by Partnership Investors and Members, we once again came together as one region with one voice and set ourselves up for continued growth as a community.” 

During the program, Partnership 2023 Board Chair Mike McCoy, CEO of NCMIC Group, unveiled the six Strategic Priorities for The Partnership in 2023. 

The Partnership’s 2023 Strategic Priorities are: 

  • Develop and implement a regional site-readiness program. 
  • Execute bold, multifaceted national marketing and communications campaigns to increase the talent attraction and economic development in Greater Des Moines. 
  • Enhance the vibrancy of DSM USA and Downtown DSM through infrastructure and major placemaking projects.  
  • Drive inclusive small business growth strategy.  
  • Collaborate on Capital Crossroads 3.0 and integration of DSM 4 Equity goals.  
  • Support the Iowa political parties and media in preparation for the 2024 Iowa Caucus.  

“This is an extensive list of priorities that you, our Investors and Members, asked for,” McCoy said. “We will accomplish these priorities together in the year ahead to make Greater Des Moines even Greater.”

The Partnership also announced its Board of Directors and Executive Board. In addition to McCoy’s role as Chair and Crosbie’s role as Past Chair, David Stark with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and Jeff Rommel with Nationwide will serve as Vice Chairs, and Rick Tiwald with Deloitte will serve as Secretary/Treasurer. This year’s Annual Dinner keynote presentation was headlined by Erik Weihenmayer. Weihenmayer is the co-founder of No Barriers, which has a mission to help people with challenges to run into the storm of life, face barriers head-on, embrace a pioneering and innovative spirit and team up with great people to live rich in meaning and purpose. In 2001, Weihenmayer became the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
