Downtown DSM Looks to Build for the Future: RFP Open for Downtown Vision Plan and Action Plan, Operation Downtown Strategic Plan
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (May 14, 2021) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership, in collaboration with Bravo Greater Des Moines, Catch Des Moines, City of Des Moines, Des Moines Regional Transit Authority (DART), Des Moines Downtown Chamber of Commerce, Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), FuseDSM, Operation Downtown and Polk County, are working to develop a community-driven Downtown Vision Plan and Action Plan to help position Downtown Des Moines (DSM) for short-term economic recovery and long-term economic vitality and vibrancy. This inclusive process will be designed to build upon the momentum Downtown DSM had prior to COVID-19, and set up Downtown DSM for future success. It will also roll up into the Capital Crossroads Regional Vision Plan, which will be updated in 2022.
A Request for Proposals is now live. The Downtown Vision Plan and Action Plan Steering Committee seeks the services of a consulting team with broad experience in visioning, urban design, historic preservation, parking and transportation, market analysis, targeted retail development, citizen outreach and implementation.
In addition to a community-owned Downtown Vision Plan and Action Plan, but in conjunction with these Plans and parts of the RFP, Operation Downtown, Downtown DSM’s business improvement district, seeks a Strategic Plan to clarify vision and mission, and better define its scope of services.
“Downtown DSM has a rich history in planning and executing on plans through public/private partnerships,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, Chief Operations Officer at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “Now is the time to collectively shape Downtown DSM for years and even decades to come in a collaborative, inclusive way.”
The Downtown Vision Plan and Action Plan Steering Committee is chaired by Angela Connolly, Chair of the Polk County Board of Supervisors; Mayor Frank Cownie, City of Des Moines; Jake Christensen, President of Christensen Development; and Kathryn Kunert, Vice President of Economic Connections and Integration at MidAmerican Energy.
